Final Lecture of Eliezer Rabinovici

String Theory*: Objectives, Challenges and Magic

Tuesday, September 8th, 2.30 pm
Institut Henri Poincaré
Amphithéâtre Darboux
11 rue Pierre et Marie Curie
Paris 5ème

This lecture is aimed to the general public and will be held in English:

What spirit behind the quest of a simple theory of nature ? What ideas have been validated by nature and which ones wait to be discovered or refuted ?

What amazing and unexpected properties which seem to have a touch of magic have been the outcome of this research ?

* String theory is a brave attempt to find a framework in which all the known basic interactions of matter can be described. It has grown out of the very precise and experimentally drive field of elementary particle physics and has soured and captured the imagination of a generation of high energy physicists.
