For over 20 years, the Blaise Pascal international research chairs for excellence have been part of the Île-de-France region’s research landscape. These chairs – funded by the Île de France region – enable world-renowned foreign researchers to be hosted by higher education and research institutions in this region. The international reputation of this scheme is beyond dispute since its prestigious list of 90 recipients includes 5 Nobel prize-winners.

At a time of increasing world scientific competition, the Île-de-France region wants to consolidate its leadership and strengthen the international influence of its scientific research and institutions. Hosting experienced, world-renowned foreign scientists in the Île-de-France region forms part of this goal since it creates favorable conditions to develop international collaboration. This collaboration enriches research programs, especially via interaction between young researchers from the Île-de-France region’s laboratories and top-level foreign scientists.

The new 2017 recruitment campaign for these chairs is now launched. At least four new chairs for excellence will be funded by the Île-de-France region, while further chairs depend on host institutions and other partners raising co-funding. To this end, a supplementary list will be drawn up by the selection panel.

Applicants will be chosen by a multidisciplinary selection panel comprising equal numbers of men and women. Projects will be selected on the basis of their scientific quality and multidisciplinary nature, their contribution to the host institution’s and ComUE’s appeal, and the quality of their proposed teaching program.
